I have visited Venice many times, but despite having visited Italy for the first time in 1992 it would not be until 2007 that I made my first visit to La Serenissima on a solo trip.
On that occasion I was working on a photography commission to capture the sights of some of Italy’s festivals, including Carnevale.
It was a cold and wet February as I landed in Rome, capturing much of the Eternal City (more to come on that) before heading to Venice.
This image was taken on a recent visit, during the summer which is not the best time of year at all to visit Venice, but in quieter parts of the island city such as Castello there are places to relax and enjoy life.
I lead photography tours and workshops in Italy, including Venice and Rome. For more information visit photographyrome.com or contact me here.
