Fanad Head Lighthouse, Donegal

Perhaps Ireland’s most photographed lighthouse, Fanad Head Lighthouse sits at the northern tip of the Fanad peninsula in the north west of Ireland.

High up in the north Atlantic this lighthouse looks like a typical Irish light perched on well-weathered rocks with steps down steep cliffs to a sheltered cove.

One of Ireland’s 70 lighthouses it guards the entrance to Lough Swilly, an inlet of the Atlantic and a safe haven for ships in stormy conditions.

Donegal is one of the most beautiful parts of Ireland with a long, deeply indented coastline and many peninsulae, it is one of my favourite places in which to photograph.
